Camilla Reymans newest artworks carry an alikeness to the many inherent characters of geological landscapes and the abstract expressions found in nature. By skillfully combining natures raw materials and favored forms with a sense of mathematical principle behind the abstract composition, Reyman epitomizes nature’s self-creating expression and mirrors that element in her own artworks.

Reymans artworks inhabit certain autonomous properties in their being, as the powder pigment she uses shape themselves after a transparent acrylic layer is placed to encapsulate the materials. The pigments erode within the canvas of their own free will when coupled with the acrylic, creating a visual expression Reyman can never predict. The pigments’ slow erosion alludes to how natures landscapes are formed through movement and pressure over time.

By placing layer upon layer of pigment as seen in the white, carbon black and red ochre artworks, Reyman manages to produce an expression verging on the perception of the materiality being almost visibly invisible. The dimensionality of layering the porous and perishable material creates an illusion of transparent depth within the canvas, an homage to Reymans immense technical skills.

The eyes succumb to the contusions on the canvas’ as the fragile character of the natural powder pigments moves over the canvas, creating a three-dimensional geological map permeated by the combination of texture and the earthly color palette for the viewers to be enraptured by.
